This enchanting and authentic medieval château originates from the 11th century and was the ancestral home of the Viscounts of Lautrec. Developed architecturally until the 16th century, it was sieged during the Wars of Religion. Frozen in time, it lay abandoned for five centuries, until being fully restored, using sustainable and traditional methods.
Situated in the south of France, close to the bastide village of Lautrec and central to three UNESCO World Heritage sites, the chateau sits in 17 hectares of parkland, woods, meadows and sun-flowered fields. Adjacent to the chateau is a swimming pool, grand pavilion and outdoor bar/kitchen from which to survey the sweeping panorama towards the Pyrenean peaks. The castle is organized around a polygonal interior arched courtyard and consists of a keep, two square towers, a circular tower containing the spiral staircase, and a beautiful entrance watchtower. Under the castle are immense cellars, a dungeon and a wall of Roman origin. In the grounds is a romantic shrine and water source, decorated with a huge stone scallop shell on an ancient pilgrim route to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle.
